Have you meet our Frogs?

The Green and Golden Bell Frog was introduced to Aotearoa from Australia in the 1860’s. Although recognised for its beautiful colouring, a bright emerald gold with striking tawny markings, these frogs can be hard to find when in a pond setting due to their camouflage.

With their loud, nasal call, you are more likely to hear these frogs before you see them.

At Waitakaruu we have several pond sites and you are more likely to hear and see these frogs from December - February. Visit our rock garden or sit above the the main quarry pond, at the top of our site, where the acoustics amplify the sound into an impressive chorus.
