Fun facts about the Tui Bird
The Tui is loud and easily recognizable from its call made up of whistles, clicks, coughs and grunts. It is often the first bird to start signing in the morning and the last to sing at night.
Famous for their singing ability, the Tui can sing two different notes at once. When you watch a Tui sing you may notice gaps in the sound, this is when the beak is agape and the throat tufts are throbbing. (this is the reason it was originally called the “parsons” bird)
Tuis also sing at night, especially around the full moon period.
