Diane Scott holds a Masters Degree with first class honours from the Elam School of Fine Arts, University of Auckland. In 2012 she received the Elam School of Fine Arts Prize for Painting. Scott was the winner of the Glaistor Ennor Masters Graduate Art Award 2012. She also received the Glaistor Ennor People’s Choice Award.

Prior to studying at Elam, School of Fine Arts Scott's art practice was primarily sculptural. Her work with stone allowed her to gain an understanding of the material’s inherant properties and it’s surfaces. This experience informs the current work.

Diane Scott explores the tensions that exist between image and object, and questions the hierarchies of the elements that comprise painting through the jumping of the image to material and form surface to void. Examining how an abstract painting can function as an object you see but also in what that object makes visible through process, materiality and sensation.
