Peter Dornauf is a long time Waikato artist and writer who has been painting since the early eighties. His work during this time has been collected by various art institutions as well as private collectors. He usually exhibits at least once a year with new work and more recently has engaged in the production of wood sculptures. Over the years his style has evolved but essentially it has rested in a bold, graphic mix of abstraction and figuration that deals with imagery drawn from local environs. The resulting pieces possess a primal quality that attempt to conjure something of New Zealand place and moment but with a timeless and even symbolic quotient.
